Ridley Road – Dalston Public Art/Signage Commission

Hackney Council would like to commission an artist to produce and install two public art displays/signs at Ridley Road Market. The commissioned artist must produce art that reflects the character, spirit and essence of Ridley Road, including historical reference in the design and must engage with local stakeholders in the development of the design via design workshops. Ideally, the commissioned artist or practice would local to the borough and familiar with Ridley Road Market and everything it has to offer. They must also possess previous experience of delivering public art in a dense multicultural urban environment.

The commissioned artist will be responsible for idea creation, workshop facilitation, engagement, consultation, gaining relevant permissions, fabrication and installation. The Council will support in all aspects of the project, however the commissioned artist will act as project lead.

The artwork must be robust in nature with the ability to withstand acts of ASB (graffiti) and the artist must provide care and maintenance instructions.

The Council is keen to work with a practice /artist that has proven experience of positively engaging with businesses and local residents, including those who historically do not engage in this activity to ensure the design reflects the wider community.
