Consultation: Are you living with chronic pain?

Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance is looking for people living with chronic pain to take part in a research project exploring the lived experience of pain and the role of the arts in pain management.

The initial phase of the study is a paid consultation that takes place in January 2023. Through discussion and short creative tasks, we will explore what it means to live with chronic pain and the role creativity in pain management.

Health within illness: The language of pain

Health within illness: The language of pain is a pilot study that examines the lived experience of chronic pain through arts-based methods and the role of creativity in pain management. The research project is developed in response to Trinity Laban’s Singing for Pain Management (2021) which revealed the importance of a creative arts programme that is tailored to particular health conditions. Evaluation findings highlighted that people living with chronic pain are best positioned to understand what kinds of impact are generated through creative arts engagement and how these might be evidenced.

This project works with people living with chronic pain as experts by experience. They will work alongside a Trinity Laban researcher, arts facilitator, and an occupational therapist as co-researchers. All stages of the project, from designing the research questions through to disseminating findings, will be co-determined by all those involved in the study.

The study led by Dr Rebecca Stancliffe (Trinity Laban) and starts in January 2023.
