Arts & Humanities Research Council Bursaries

Clore are excited to again be working in partnership with the AHRC to provide bursary opportunities for Arts and Humanities academics based within a UK Higher Education Institution research organisation who are committed to developing as a cultural leader.

The Courses

Academics have the option of participating in two leadership courses offered by Clore Leadership: Emerging Leaders or Leadership Pulse.

About Emerging Leaders

Emerging Leaders is an intensive course providing the essential skills and tools required by cultural leaders in the early stages of their careers. Grounded in experiential learning and rich with real-life examples shared by experts from across the cultural and corporate sectors, Emerging Leaders provides professional and personal development for individuals who want to lead and make an impact within the cultural sector.

About Leadership Pulse

Leadership Pulse is a dynamic modular course for those seeking to sharpen their skills and knowledge in order to face head-on the challenges of 21st Century leadership. The course content is grounded in experiential learning and rich with real-life examples shared by experts from across the cultural and corporate sectors.

These courses offer academics a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills and competencies – appropriate to their career stage – to contribute to the vitality of the cultural sector through their research and engagement activities. Academics will engage closely with a wide range of fellow participants, professionals, and experts drawn from diverse specialisms including the visual and performing arts, film and digital media, libraries, museums, archives and heritage, and cultural policy.

Bursary Coverage

AHRC will provide funding for the full course fees (fees, accommodation, meals, etc.) for up to two academics in the Arts and Humanities per course.

A Carer’s bursary is also available to support applicants with caring responsibilities. The Carer’s bursary should be applied for separately.

The closing date for all applications is 12 Noon Wednesday 6 July 2022.

Additional eligibility criteria

In addition to meeting the general eligibility criteria for all applicants set out by Clore Leadership, academic applicants should:

  • hold a PhD (or equivalent professional experience)
  • have an outstanding track record (appropriate to career stage) of research on the cultural sector
  • be actively engaged in participating and/or supporting the development of the cultural sector in the UK
  • be able to able to demonstrate some experience (appropriate to career stage) of initiating and/or managing projects and people in a research-intensive environment

Academic applicants must be based at a UK Research Organisation and be working in one of the AHRC’s subject domains.

AHRC is keen to encourage applications from Black, Asian and ethnically diverse and/or disabled academics who are currently underrepresented in leadership positions in the sector.
