RAW Material and Tony Cealy presents: The Mending Room

This summer a brand new 3 year funded arts and health project will be launching called the Mending Room. It’s aimed at children and young people aged 11-19, parents and carers in South London.

The onboarding process will involve them signing up and attending one of the taster sessions in July and after that completing the joining form if they decide to join for a week-long residency launch 11.00am – 4.00pm 10th – 14th August in which they will be paid.

Here’s how interested people might participate in the Mending Room

Imagine yourself in a playful, creative, learning environment along with a council officer, a policy maker, a senior health manager, a clinician, a youth worker, a teacher, a social care worker, an academic, a researcher, a group of young people, and some parents all playfully collaborating together having fun, making mistakes, testing and trialling their ideas and prototypes around how they (as Menders) could improve neighbourhood mental health and wellbeing services so that they could be redesigned or reimagined for the future. All of this work will lead to a public exhibition sharing on the evening of the 13th August.

You might decide to join the Mending Room

  • As a full-time Mender in the first iteration (week intensive) launching 11.00am – 4.00pm during the week of 10-14 August.

  • As a part-time Mender during the above schedule

  • As guest speaker, sharing expertise/knowledge in a discussion/Q&A format with the Menders

  • As a panel guest at the exhibition showcase on 13th August 5.30pm – 7pm

  • As a supporter of the project advocating and or campaigning for the projects creative health approaches to influence change

  • Sharing with the Menders how you might be able to leverage your strategic skills and introduce the MR to your networks for sustainable partnerships

  • Advocating for more artistic processes that can positively impact community development and public service delivery for deeper community engagement

  • Consider whether you’d be up for partnering with the Menders to bring them closer and more involved in the policymaking processes for the future.

  • Consider offering any gifts, resources donations mentorship to enhance the visibility of the MR project

Having Menders collaborate with you on this journey is a vital way to achieve the change we want. It helps the community to break down the us and them barriers and enables us to collectively identify solutions to improving Children & Young People’s Mental Health and wellbeing services.
