Join us to celebrate the launch of a co-created artwork for our project, In the Joy Fantastic

About this event

Resonate Arts are celebrating the Platinum Jubilee with our In the Joy Fantastic project. Partnering with the Wallace Collection, artist Katie Turnball has run workshops for people living with dementia in various day centres and community spaces across Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea. Together, they have co-created an artwork that explores and celebrates the feeling of joy and the joyful nature of the Queen’s platinum Jubilee.

Join us to celebrate the project, see the artwork, meet some of the contributors and get involved in a workshop!

This event is mainly aimed at people living with dementia and their companions, carers and families. We are including a limited number of tickets to invite artists and any professionals working in health and social care who have an interest in socially engaged arts practice and dementia.

Resonate Arts

Resonate Arts produces a pioneering programme of creative activities and experiences for people living with dementia in the boroughs of Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea. We believe engagement in arts and culture has enduring effects on wellbeing, health and quality of life, and we endeavour to be a catalyst for positive change, to reduce social isolation and build strong communities.

Katie Turnbull

Through sculpture, including time as a medium that is malleable, Katie Turnbull seeks to shift the viewer out of habitual modes of looking, evoking a feeling of suspension from the current moment. She makes objects, installation, non-narrative video and interactive pieces. She works by collecting; objects, footage, sound, and images. A sorting process occurs, then work emerges from the overlapping associations. Recent works deal with splitting; between body and mind, sight and perception, internal spaces made external and human and non-human. Katie’s work has been exhibited at Focal Point Gallery, Coventry Cathedral and Allenshead Contemprary Art in the UK. As well as Galleries UNSW, Firstdraft, Seventh Gallery, Penrith Regional Gallery, Dubbo Regional Art Gallery, MAMA Albury, RMIT Gallery and the Powerhouse Museum in Australia.

Wallace Collection

The Wallace Collection is an internationally outstanding collection which contains unsurpassed masterpieces of paintings, sculpture, furniture, arms and armour and porcelain. Built over the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries by the Marquesses of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace, it is one of the finest and most celebrated collections in the world.

So that it could be kept together and enjoyed by generations of visitors, the collection was given to the British Nation in 1897. It was an astonishing bequest and one of the greatest gifts of art works ever to be transferred into public ownership. Today, our job is to maintain, research, and inspire the public to love and understand the Collection
