ROOTED BEINGS

This free exhibition at the Wellcome collection opens today until 29th August 2022.
“‘Rooted Beings’ invites you to embark on a meditative reflection on the world of plants and fungi. The exhibition considers what we might learn from plant behaviour, and the impacts of colonial expeditions on the exploitation of natural resources and indigenous knowledges. “
We begin the exhibition with work from Artist Gözde İlkin, where vast hand sewn mixed material tapestries suspend from the ceiling, light and airy. Depictions of people and nature simultaneously entwined and battling each other, adorn these delicate but beautifully bold pieces.
Eduardo Navarro, in collaboration with philosopher Michael Marder, guides us through a meditation that asks the viewer to imagine how you would interact and sense the world as a living plant.
Explore other artists; İIngela Ihrman and Joseca, Patricia Domínguez, RESOLVE Collective and Sop in the exhibition as well as botanical archives from the Wellcome collection and Royal Botanical Garden at Kew.
