An Intergenerational Theatre Workshop with Chickenshed Theatre – as Part of The Flourishing Lives Series at Barbican

About this event

The Lost Records | An Intergenerational Theatre Workshop, with Chickenshed Theatre

As part of the Flourishing Lives Series at Barbican

Do you remember the song that changed you, the track that takes you back to a place you had forgotten, the album you treasure for reasons only you know?

This intergenerational theatre workshop will explore how music moves us, captures memories that tingle the senses and takes us to places we had forgotten. The Lost Records is a year long arts exploration, led by The Space Between Us Programme at Chickenshed, into how we connect our stories to music, using movement, drama, writing and film.

What does our music say about who we are and how we have lived life?

This workshop will bring you into the heart of the artistic process and your creative voice will be captured and treasured and contribute towards the final performances in Summer 2023 at Chickenshed.

You are welcome to get involved, no experience in the performing arts necessary, just an openness to try something new and find new connections.

About The Flourishing Lives Series at Barbican:

The Flourishing Lives Series at Barbican is an innovative series of free quarterly workshops, events and activities that are open to all, celebrating the immense contribution that older people make to both art and society. Our aim is to change the public discourse around ageing by fostering an intergenerational exchange of ideas, knowledge and inspiration, and showcasing the incredible work that arts and wellbeing organisations are developing and creating in collaboration with older people. The workshops are free and open to people of all ages – everyone is welcome!

Chickenshed is an inclusive theatre company that first began in 1974. Primarily based at our own purpose-built venue in North London, we create theatre for all ages and run successful outreach projects, education courses and membership programmes throughout the year.

The Space Between Us Programme began as a pilot project in 2017 and was born out of the desire to bring together a group that crossed generations, from all sides of society and developed a creative platform to have conversations, explore histories and devise theatre together. Taking ideas and outputs from initial conversational sessions and workshops, an emotive and thought-provoking piece of theatre is developed that prompts society to think about that ‘Space Between Us’ and how community can be a catalyst for improved social cohesion and mental wellbeing.

Barbican inspire more people to discover and love the arts. We attract new arts audiences and participants, creating inspiring arts experiences for all. From first encounters to higher education programmes, we develop interests, skills, confidence and careers. We work with outstanding artists to create an innovative international programme that crosses art forms, collaborating with organisations from around the globe to give audiences opportunities to experience outstanding work by acclaimed international companies and artists.
