Hackney Pride: Culture Grants

ACCESS: if you need support completing this application, please contact culture@hackney.gov.uk and title your email: ACCESS SUPPORT PRIDE265

As Pride Month 2023 comes to an end Hackney Council’s Culture Team are proud to announce two small grant programmes open to Hackney’s LGBTQIA+ residents and/or for LGBTQIA+ cultural activities that take place in Hackney and are focused on engaging Hackney’s communities.

These grants are aimed at events happening for either:

  • Transgender Awareness Week (13-19 November 23) and/or Transgender Day of Remembrance (20 November 23)
  • Or, LGBT+ History Month 2024 (February 2024)

Whilst the month is known as LGBT+ History Month, Hackney celebrates all LGBTQIA+ communities (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual and all other identities under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella)

The combined investment for these two grants schemes is £15,000. Awards will be made up to £1,000. You can apply to both strands but must use separate submissions to do this. This is a competitive grants programme and as such not all eligible and/or good applications will receive an offer of funding. These awards are made as part of the Hackney PRIDE365 arts and culture programme.

Successful applications in 2022 included: walking tours with Queer Tours of London, a panel discussion for Queer intergenerational women and non-binary people and Zine making and film screenings with Queer China UK and Queer cinema from the 1980s and 1990s at Dalston’s Rio Cinema.

The applications are open now and close midnight SUNDAY 20th August, we endeavour to make awards by the end of August/beginning of September.

What is it?

We welcome applications covering a broad range of projects, including: community events, educational activities, film screenings, talks, walks, exhibitions, nightlife, podcasts or reminisce sessions. We expect all applications to involve LGBTQIA+ leadership and/or partnership and we particularly welcome projects that embed intersectional collaboration across Hackney’s communities.

Grants will be awarded for cultural activities and ideas that support and/or reflect on the outcomes of either Transgender Awareness Week and Transgender Day of Remembrance, or LGBT+ History Month 2024 and that root these outcomes in the fabric of Hackney (via engaging with Hackney’s creative community, venues or residents). This is a competitive grant scheme and we will not be able to fund all good and eligible applications.
