Deptford X Supported is back again this year with funding for 3 projects to be commissioned for the 2023 Deptford X festival.
Deptford X Supported is open to early career Black and People of Colour artists from the London Borough of Lewisham who have not previously received a commission for their work. Their project will be chosen by a panel of professional artists and art professionals and selected artists will receive a fee, a production budget and curatorial support to produce their work for this year’s Deptford X festival. All applicants, regardless of whether their project is selected, will be invited to attend free artist development workshops.
We are open to all kinds of projects from installations, public realm works, films, performances, happenings, workshops, interventions, and other kinds of art project that will contribute to 2023’s 10 day Deptford X festival.
Selection Process
A longlist of applications will be reviewed by a guest selection panel who will consider the concept, quality and cost of each project before selecting the finalists. Finalists will be invited to Deptford X [Either in person or via Zoom, depending on what is possible] for an interview by the Deptford X team, following which the three Deptford X Supported projects will be chosen.
Criteria
> We reserve the right to decline any project that we deem discriminatory, offensive or contrary to our values.
We define values as principles of behaviour and/or judgements of what is important.
Our organisational values are: learning, care, respect, openness and equality.
> ‘Supported’ is only open to Black and People of Colour artists who are resident within the London borough of Lewisham or close to the borders of the borough.
> Well-conceived and thought-out projects – this is both in terms of concept but also in terms of practical construction and installation process.
> A clear budget / spending plan
