Experimental Textiles Workshop with Beth Hopkins

February 26, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free – £10

Join artist Beth Hopkins to discover ways to work with textiles in 3D.

In this workshop we will explore the different meanings our clothes have to us and experiment with creating fabric forms. We will look at artists who have used fabric in their work and consider the divide between craft and art.

Please bring along one or to pieces of old clothing which you no longer want, which might have memories or associations for you. T-shirts, shirts and jumpers work well. Note: We will be twisting, gathering and stuffing them so please be sure you no longer want to wear them!

You will also need:

  • Scissors
  • String or Wool
  • Toy stuffing or stuffing from an unwanted cushion
  • Needle and thread

No sewing skills required except for basic running stitch. To learn how to do a basic running stitch, watch this video.

This workshop is based on Making Investigations Toolkit #3: Textiles, available to download from the Bethlem Gallery website here. Making Investigations Toolkit #2 on Binding can be downloaded here.

This workshop will be held on video calling platform, Zoom. Details of how to join will be sent to ticket holders by email a few days before the workshop. If you are unsure of how to use Zoom then please contact info@bethlemgallery.com for support in accessing the workshop.
