Warbling: Open call for exhibition in East London

Warbling is an artist-run, independent platform that focuses predominantly on organising inclusive pop-up brick and mortar exhibitions in London, UK. More information about the project and the artist behind it can be found here.

Each exhibition open call begins with a title, it is completely up to each artist submitting to come to their conclusion on how the title might relate or sit nicely alongside their ongoing practice. Expanding on your interpretation of the predetermined title is optional in the submission form, your submitted artworks will be taken into consideration within the context of the exhibition as a whole and how they might be read alongside the other participating artists. There is no theme per se, for this group exhibition, the title will be A Plot, Hatched By Two. The submission form can be found at the bottom of this page, please be sure to read all the following information before completing your submission.

ELIGIBILITY

  • International, UK-based and London-based artists are all welcome to submit for the exhibition.

  • All mediums of visual art will be considered.

  • There are no size restrictions, only the limitations of the gallery space, to view a floor plan of the venue please click here.

  • Work submitted must be new within the last 2 years.

  • If selected, you may be asked for additional images/information for promotional purposes.

  • Artists who have exhibited with Warbling previously are welcome to make a submission, each exhibition has always includes a small number of artists from past shows.

SPECIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Artists may submit up to 5 distinct pieces of work for consideration.

  • Images should be uploaded directly to the form.

  • Videos can be submitted either by uploading directly to the form (up to 1GB), alternatively please provide links to Vimeo, YouTube, etc. within the form.

  • The exhibition venue will retain a 40% commission total on all sales made during the exhibition. Please factor in this amount when determining your prices.

  • The cost of delivering the artworks to London / the exhibition space is the responsibility of the artist, along with any insurance. Please consider this when submitting works that may cost more to transport.

  • The collection of works for an artist based in London are the responsibility of the artist. Collections are to be made on Monday the 28th of February from 1-3 Yorkton Street, London, E2 8NH.

  • Warbling is responsible for the return of artworks to international artists and those based outside Greater London, arrangements will be made within the couple weeks following the exhibition.

  • The artist is not responsible for shipping if the artwork sells during the exhibition.

  • Substitutions are not guaranteed. Please be aware that if an accepted work sells, becomes otherwise unavailable, or turns out to be too expensive to ship to London, there is no guarantee that another work can be substituted.

IMPORTANT DATES

  • The deadline is on Friday 7th January 2022, 11.59pm, GMT

  • If your work is selected, you will receive further information about delivering/collection deadlines and address at that time, once the deadline has passed.

  • All selected works need to be available for installation and display in London from the 22nd – 28th February 2022 at the exhibition space (1-3 Yorkton Street,London, E2 8NH, United Kingdom).

  • The selected artists will be announced on the Warbling Instagram (@warblingcollective) and website two weeks after the closing of the open call. If your work is selected you will receive an email with further information at this time.

LIABILITY & PHOTOGRAPHY

  • Although artworks will be handled with care, Warbling cannot be responsible for loss or damage to artworks, and artists are encouraged to carry their own insurance when the work is shipped.

  • Warbling reserves the right to photograph artwork during the event and use images of the artwork for publicity and educational purposes in perpetuity. By submitting artwork via this call, the artist is agreeing to the terms outlined above.

IMAGE STANDARDS

  • Please title your image files before uploading to the form with ‘Title, Year, Medium, Dimensions(cm), Price(GBP£), First Name and Surname’

  • Images must show the exact work you are submitting and the artwork must be complete. Please do not submit works in progress.

  • Please try to keep your image uploads to less than 20MB each.

  • Video links can be pasted into the submission form with a password and the details of the video you are submitting, if you’re having trouble uploading to the form.

SUBMISSION

  • The submission fee is £20 (non-refundable) to submit 5 individual pieces or less. Online entry only via PayPal or bank transfer.

  • Please be thoughtful of the projects and art communities you choose to support and be a part of, information about Warbling is available on this website, please take the time to read about the project, learn about past exhibitions and view the Warbling Instagram @warblingcollective to become familiar with the initiative you are supporting.

  • Warbling is an artist-run project and the submission fee is due to the substantial admin and processing involved with running an international open call, the fee goes towards the cost of renting venues, shipping of artworks, advertising, etc. It ensures that Warbling is sustainable and able to commit to this exhibition and future exhibitions to come.
