Wellbeing to be at the heart of East London Dance

Tia Hassan and Kate Scanlan will take on the joint role of creative director and chief executive at East London Dance on a job share basis.

They will begin the role from October 4, replacing outgoing chief executive and artistic director Polly Risbridger.

The appointment comes as East London dance, which champions the art form and provides opportunities for artists, moves into a new purpose-built home called the Talent House this autumn.

Hassan came to work with East London Dance in 2009 as part time marketing and comms manager and is also an independent creative producer.

Kate Scanlan is a creative producer who joined Battersea Power Station in 2016 to lead on events and cultural programming, and has also produced at scale for Lendlease Elephant Park, EcoWorld London, MOVE IT and Rambert.

Hassan and Kate Scanlan said: “We have both worked with East London Dance over the last 15 years and have a genuine love for the organisation and its work, participants, artists and audiences.

“We are excited to be a part of this next phase of the organisation. This is a critical time for the sector and now, more than ever, the Talent House will offer so much to artists, communities and individuals as we recover, rebuild and innovate again.”

They added: “Wellbeing and creativity will be at the heart of our vision, the building and our programmes.

“We will make space to support artists to realise their own vision, as well as leading on creative concepts at all scales in and outside the building.”
