Research into Recovery – Neon

NEON (Narrative Experiences Online) is a research study running from 2017-2023.  Information about who is involved in funding and running the study is here.

NEON is testing whether having online access to people’s real-life stories of recovery from mental ill health can be helpful for people experiencing psychosis or other mental health problems and their carers.

From 2017 to 2019 the focus in NEON was on developing a good understanding about what a recovery story is, how recovery stories make an impact, and how to collect and present these stories. The research we published is shown here and has helped us produce the following definitions.

We also collected lots of recovery stories, many of which were provided by public collections such as those listed here. A particular focus has been on stories from people whose voices are seldom heard by mainstream cultures, and the NEON Collection is aiming to be the largest and most diverse online repository of mental health recovery stories in the world.

From 2019 until 2023 we will be testing whether people benefit from viewing, hearing and reading these recovery stories, and we are conducting three trials. You can read more about these trials here.
