St Margaret’s House launches a new season for spring 2022 – Dive In!It’s all about embracing the Spring, longer days and diving in to the many new activities and events as part of our programmes at St Margaret’s House

Welcome to our new season – “Dive In!” It’s been a long winter but as the sun starts to shine and days are getting longer it feels like a great time to get out and “dive in” to the many workshops, events, projects and performances St Margaret’s House has to offer in our new season.

Our live programme includes lots of wonderful music opportunities and sees our Gallery Cafe come alive once more as a venue with Bity Booker (21st May presented by FolklandRoots- Dive in to psych-folksinger songwriter Bity Booker’s songs; inviting you to reconnect with nature. There’s also support from Japanese folk musician Yoko Tsubame.

Mindful Music continues to sooth with its regular evenings of live music combined
with mindfulness Meditation. Our Open Mic evenings continues to grow on the last
Thursday of every month giving opportunities for everyone to share their music,
poetry and spoken word.

Our Create Place is bursting with Paper Portrait making where in May and June you
can create your own portraits and Paper Jewellery Making! There’s also a series of
Life Drawing and Print Making for LGBTQ groups added to our regular workshops
such as the wonderful Embroidery for Wellbeing. But don’t miss our new sewing
workshop “Sewing Made Simple” for those who want to try for the first time.

Our new Canvas space has much to “dive in” to: Our Health Tree activities continue
including massage, acupuncture and fitness and don’t forget our fun fitness classes
for over 50’s as part of Movement and Meet! There are also completely new
opportunities to try taster sessions in Somatic Movement, a technique that the
connection between the body and the mind.

Added to that we have Songwise music workshops for ages 5-11. Join the Songrise
team for a fun and imaginative look at collaborative songwriting, using voice, body
percussion and instrumental accompaniments. Aimed at children between the ages
of 5 and 11, Songrise Workshops is the perfect Saturday afternoon activity for any
primary school-aged children who are keen on exploring creative music making, in a
fun, encouraging and inclusive setting.

And on Saturday 7 th May you can “Try Flamenco”- Introduction to flamenco dance
workshop led by Magdalena Mannion from Dotdotdot Dance. Flamenco is a strong
and unique solo dance form originating in the south of Spain. Learn the basics of
flamenco rhythms, footwork and movements, as well as a short choreography.
Suitable for all ages and levels, no experience necessary!

And “Dive In” is the season where we launch our new community heritage project
Mendoza Mania supported by the National Heritage Lottery! Fancy learning about a
local boxing hero in fun workshops?
We are looking for people of all ages, genders and background to rediscover
Mendoza through heritage and community activities and be inspired to create an
exhibition, film and community play that showcases the heritage and what it means
to us today.

There’s so much to have fun trying out, so “Dive In” and join us this season!
