Writing through trauma

WriteWell is hosting a one-off, open and candid online event on trauma, grief and loss with authors Rachel Kelly and Niamh Fitzpatrick. Writing through Trauma will address hope and healing through the experiences of these two women who wrote their way through hardship and loss.

Bestselling UK author and mental health advocate Rachel Kelly believes in the power of writing for wellbeing. During the toughest period in her life, writing created something concrete and tangible out of  ‘swirling and shapeless darkness’ in her mind. The author’s 2014 memoir ‘Black Rainbow: how words healed me – my journey through depression, is about her struggle with depression and how writing helped on the road to recovery.

Author  Niamh Fitzpatrick work as a psychologist means she is used to being open about emotions, even the painful ones. After her sister died in a helicopter crash she began speaking publicly about trauma and some of the losses in her own life, like infertility and the end of her marriage. This led to writing her first book, Tell Me the Truth About Loss, published three years after her sister Dara’s death.
