About the Social Role of the Artist Survey

By completing this survey, you will be helping us inform our next research review looking into the social role of the artist. Your feedback will help us make sure our research in this area is as useful and relevant as possible to you.

The social role of the artist is a very broad research area, and so there are a couple of limitations to what is in and out of scope for this particular review.

The artist’s role in society has long been a topic of debate. Over the last decade, in the face of large global challenges, these conversations have become more relevant than ever. This is especially the case as artists adapt their practice to respond to social, environmental and political issues.

When completing the survey, please bear in mind the focus of the review will be on present-day society, so historical research into the social role of the artist is out of scope.

It is also worth knowing that this review will look at the role artists play in society as a whole. This means that although economic, cultural and political topics and concerns will inform the research, they are not the primary focus of this more holistic review.
